About us

Established in 2014, Last of the Summer Ukuleles are, largely, a group of retirees who just love to entertain.  We play ukuleles of various kinds (and vintages) with various degrees of expertise.   Our gigs are full of fun - we thoroughly enjoy ourselves and this seems to connect with our audiences.

Musically we cover almost all the bases from Formby to Cash to Oasis and The Zootons !  Most of our favourite material finds its roots in the 50's and 60's - maybe we're a geriatric skiffle group. In the main we major on daytime gigs where there seems to be an unfilled need for entertainment and, being in retirement, we are best placed to meet that need,

All proceeds from our gigs and busking buckets are donated to charitable causes.
In 2015 we raised a few pounds short of £1100 for 'Houghton Helpers'.
In 2016 we supported Kingfisher House a short stay respite care facility for youngsters with special needs of some kind. Raising over £1600 in the year.
2017 we supported Houghton & Dunstable Hospice at Home Volunteers adding £2232 to their coffers.
Our 2018 charity was 'Music for my mind' for which we raised £2775.
2019 we again supported Houghton Dunstable Hospice at Home Volunteers to the tune of a whopping £3583 !

2020 was almost a total write off on the fund raising front due to the Covid19 restrictions so, currently, we are still supporting Houghton Dunstable Hospice at Home Volunteers

We welcome anyone with a uke to join our jam sessions, regardless of their level of competence. The dates are displayed elsewhere on the blog. The level of laughter is off the Richter scale as we don't take ourselves too seriously.  There is always someone who will help out novices with advice or instruction.
